This area of the city is situated to the right of the main entrance to the Preserve, on the shore of Quarantine Bay. A Greek settlement appeared here at the end of the 5th c. BC. Initially it occupied a relatively small part of the shore which with time was completely built up. The topological relief of this region necessitated formidable defensive walls behind which stood warehouses, residential and public buildings constructed at the end of the 4th - beginning of the 3rd cc. BC. To learn more about individual archaeological structures either choose from the menu on the left or click on a monument on the map. |
