The History Of The Chora |
In ancient Greek, the word chora had several meanings: land, region, district. In the famous oath of the citizens of Chersonesos chora signifies a territory under the control of the Chersonesites. At present, scholars use the word chora to denote the land plots of the citizens of Chersonesos, plots which were located on the Heraklean Peninsula. Although the chora did not immediately attract the attention of scholars who were more interested in uncovering the urban districts of Chersonesos, it remains a leading subject for research because its territory reveals a uniquely preserved system of ancient agronomic technology. |
